Evidently, I'm talking to myself. But that's OK.

Yesterday was a sad, sad day in the hometown. A deputy sheriff was shot and killed by a man who did not want his water cut off. I can only assume that he'd not paid his water bill for a LONG time. So now a young man, an Iraqi war vet, is dead. Because some yahoo didn't want to play by the rules. I'm not for gun control, per se, as we (BFF and I) own several. One's for personal protection. The others are for hunting. But whoever decided that if you don't live up to your financial obligations, it's OK to shoot the people who are just doing their job (the girlfriend of the shooter had taken potshots at the water co lady earlier in the day, but thankfully, missed.) And, to top it all off, when the authorities made it into the house, the shooter was dead. Don't know yet if he offed himself, or an officer got him. If the former, why the dickens didn't he just off himself in the first place instead of taking the deputy with him??

Hope they throw the book at the chick who started it all.

A tired, tired teacher

I've not been up on the soapbox recently. Fourth grade just about kicked my behind this past year. However, I'm going to try to keep my brain non-fogged by at least trying to add to this thing occasionally.

My most recent issue is the lack of information and materials for working w/ students with dyscalculia.

It's as though it doesn't exist. Which it most certainly does. I had at least four students with major math learning disabilities this past year. But I am persevering; talked to a lady at Region IV today who was very helpful. And life goes on.

Anyone with helpful hints, etc. regarding teaching LD kids math, get in touch. Please.
